342 : How old would you go?

An interesting topic came up with friends a while back.
Shin Y covered this a while back though.

The rule of thumb for... Dating Age!

Apparently its your age divide your age by 2 and add 7(for male) to get the minimum age you can date before being a awkward age gap..

So lets say you are a youthful age of 25. The youngest you can ever date is...

25/2 + 7 = 19.5..  so...

The answer is 20?

Which actually seems really reasonable.

Similarly..
When i'm 23 i wouldn't mind dating someone who is 32..
I would love the sense of maturity. Lol

Its the maximum/minimum age depending on who you prefer an older or younger partner.
But anyways, this one is a straight couple thing so i'm not sure if it applies for gay couples.

Any agreements or disagreements? =P

**In a way this doesn't say how old you can date. It says how old before people will give you the awkward face. Like when you tell someone "i'm dating someone which is 55" people give you the weird eye type..*

  1. totally disagree that a formula could be used to gauge the suitability of dates... haha... also, by using a one dimension formula based purely on age, it does nothing to the factor called maturity.

    :-)

  2. oh... as a litmus, based on the formula, the older a person gets, the younger he can date... hiak hiak hiak... a very father-son advocate formula hor? see the following...

a person who is 80 can date someone who is 47 - gap 33
a person who is 60 can date someone who is 37 - gap 23
a person who is 40 can date someone who is 27 - gap 13
a person who is 20 can date someone who is 17 - gap 3
a person who is 18 can date someone who is 16 - gap 2...

and by legal angle, that means we cannot date someone without having sex until we are 22? else, we would be guilty of underage sex (assuming the legal age of sex is 18)?

    what's the logic?

we cannot quantify something so qualitative.

rule of thumb - the heart, the feel, the chemistry. not the numbers.

    1. Well i can say this is what teenages come up with, something they made up to measure ages around them. Sorry if i offended you with this but its just for fun. Just a joke.

  4. All depends on the maturity of the people involved. Some thirty year olds act like teenagers.

  6. Like savante said, 'some thirty year olds act like teenagers". Witnessed that and that is not pleasant at all.

I guess it all boils down to how you feel about the person and the chemistry and all that rather than the real age.

    2. YES! I mean, you don't want to be treated like a kid right? Our parents do that enough. So definitely wouldn't want that from the boyfriend.

Hahaha. Good point! just to be safe, i think i'm going to make it +/- 5 years ><

  7. Somehow, am following closely to the range of my own.

It really depends on personal preference.
